VM PUMPS

Applications and Installations

SUBMERGED :

Versa-Matic Pumps are totally submersible. It is important that the air exhaust be ported above the level of the fluid, and that the materials of construction also be compatible with the fluid that the pump is submerged in.

POSITIVE SUCTION :

For emptying tanks it is important to limit the inlet fluid pressure to approximately 10 PSI ' (0.69 bar) for Teflon® diaphragms and 15 PSI (1.03 bar) for rubber and thermo—plastic diaphragms. Greater inlet pressure can cause erratic pump operation and premature diaphragm failure

SUCTION LIFT :

The suction capabilities of each pump may vary due to system design, product being pumped, and pump materials of construction. Please consult the factory with specific criteria

VM ELIMA-MATIC® PUMPS

With The Exclusive ELIMA-MATlC® Air Valve System

ANTI-STALLING NON-ICING

LUBRICATION-FREE

True to their name, ELIMA—MATlC pumps virtually eliminate intermittent pump stalling caused by air valve system freeze-ups. By utilizing the patented ELIMA-MATICP” anti—stalling, non—icing, lubrication-free valve system, this common air diaphragm pump problem is a thing of the past

ElIMINATING DOWNTIME :

ELlMA—MATlC ensures ontinuous, reliable pump per- formance. Here’s how it works: The valve spool is positively shifted by the transfer of a pilot shaft. When the main shaft Q travels to full-stroke length, the inner piston on the opposite side depresses an internal pilot shaft which ports a burst of compressed air to the main spool valve. The main spool valve reciprocates in a positive reliable shift. As the pilot shaft

SLOSING YOUR COOl

By evacuating compressed air through air passages that are designed to allow a controlled expansion a considerable reduction in the cooling effect occurs In addition, the center block and air valve surface areas are ribbed and act as heat exchangers to dissipate the rapid cooling effect.

EASE OF MAINTENANCE

The ELIMA-MATlC not only eliminates freezing and stalling, but maintenance headaches as well. The ELlMA—MATIC has only two easily accessible center block o-rings ~ some competitors pumps have as many as seven. The pilot come out as a complete assembly and are easily replaced without the use of an o-ring tool. And the air valve can be worked on without taking the pumps center section apart.

MAXIMIZING PUMPING PERFORMANCE

Versa—Matic pumps can already handle anything from water to 90% solids easily and efficiently. Add the ELlMA—MATIC air valve system and you’ve got a pump that offers powerhouse performance

AIR VALVE UPGRADES

Also available as a conversion kit for Versa-Matic V4,V2 and V3 pumps, as well as Wilden“ 1 1/4”, 2” and 3" metallic pumps, the ELIMA-MATIC“ comes with either an aluminum, stainless steel, or Teflon-coated air section. (The air chambers, air valve and center block can be nickel—plated for diverse applications.)

Available for 1 1/4”,2”.

VM SPECIALTY PUMPS

With The Exclusive ELIMA-MATlC® Air Valve System

GRDIINDABLE ACETAL PUMPS :

The Groundable Acetal pump is constructed to accommodate grounding of a non-metallic pump. This feature allows the pump to safely transfer solvent, and other Volatile liquids without the danger of static electricity build-up. This pump has been tested by an independent laboratory to ensure quality and safe- ty. The E5 Acetal pump passed both the VAN deGRAAF Generator Test and the Unrestricted Flow Test. For written test results and test criteria information please contact the Versa—Matic“° Pump Company directly.

SOLIDS HANDLING PIIMPS

Versa-Matic“‘> screen mounted and flap valve pumps are designed to pump mediums which contain large solids. Used extensively in the construction and mining industries these pumps can handle semi—solids up to 1.125” (28.57mm) in diameter. The screen mounted bases screen the fluid to prevent larger solids from inhibiting the operation of the pump. They can be fully submerged for use in pits, sumps or other bodies of fluid (see instructions for submerged installa- tion on page 2). These pumps can deliver flows up to 260 gpm (983 lpm) mak- ing quick work of many difficult applications.

SPLIT MANIFOLD PUMPS

Versa—Matic‘“> split manifold pumps enable one pump to do the job of two sepa- rate pumps. Often used for circulating inks in the printing industry, split mani- fold pumps offer great cost savings by circulating two tanks at the same time with only one pump. The pumps construction and operation are the same as a standard pump except the flow from each side of the pump is directed out of separate manifold discharge elbows instead of one center discharge port. Contact Versa—Matic“" for application and installation options. Available in 1/2”, 1” and 2” sizes.

IIL LISTED PIIMPS

The UL Listed pumps have been tested and listed by Underwriters Laboratories for safe, spark-free flammable liquid transfer applications such as diesel fuel, kerosene, gasoline, aviation fuel, alcohol, and many others. They are available in a variety of different wet end materials of construction.

CLASSIC VERSA-MATIC PUMPS

VERSA-RUGGED VR" SERIES DIAPHRAGMS

Versa-Matic’s high quality fabric reinforced standard rubber diaphragms. They were designed to reduce maintenance and repair costs. Interchangeable with most Wilden“ pump models..

VERSA-DOME® DIAPIIRAGMS

Their simple smooth dome shape eliminates complex angles, delivering the flex across the entire face of the diaphragm. The distribution of flex allows them to last up to 300 % longer than standard diaphragms. They are also interchangeable with Wilden“ pumps.

EDA IIYTREL THERMOPLASTIC DIAPIIRAGMS

FDA Hytrel“‘° food grade diaphragms are approved for use with food and dairy mediums. FDA Hytrel” diaphragms are also excellent in abrasive product transfer applications.

TPE-Xl THERMOPLASTIC DIAPHRAGMS

Versa-Matic is the innovator of thermoplastic XL diaphragms. It has much of the chemical resistance of Teflon; but costs significantly less. It is extremely abrasion resistant. XL is also interchangeable with Wilden“ pumps.

VERSA-TUFF TEFLON DIAPHRAGMS

The Versa-Tuff Teflon diaphragms are a single piece diaphragm combin-ing the chemical resistance of Teflon with the flex-life of rubber. They offer three times the burst strength of standard Teflon overlays. They have been tested to over 23 million cycles without failure. Interchangeable with most Wilden 1 1/4”, 2” and 3” metallic pumps.

PUMP ACCESSORIES

3M" PNEUMATIC MIIEHERS

3M pneumatic mufflers can be adapted to fit most AODD pumps in the industry, and other air-operated equipment. They provide excellent noise reduction below EPA standards, with no performance loss. They are excel- lent in spark—free applications because they do not hold a static charge, and contain no metal. Unlike competitors’ mufflers, they are extremely chemi- cally resistant. The muffler inserts are also replaceable as well as washable for added cost savings..

ANTI-SHOCK VALVES

The Anti—Shock Valve enables the pump to start smoothly and gradually, and thus eliminate shock load conditions which could cause damage to diaphragms and other moving parts. With a smooth start, the risk for vibration damages on the pipe system and the pipe fastening will be minimized. The risk for cavitation during start-up is also minimized with a smooth start, especially when pumping highly viscous products.

VERSA-SENSE LEAK DETECTOR

Using the capacitance change principle, compared to competitors models which sense by conduction, the Versa—Sense"'-“ has a much broader sensing range. The competitions leak detection need high levels of water, or ionic solutions to be effective sensing devices, where the Versa—Sense”‘ can be used on a wider variety of mediums with confidence. The Versa—SenseT-“ instantly shuts the pump down when a leak is sensed, sounds a 90 decibel alarm, and lights a brilliant LED light. The Versa—Sense“‘ can also simulta- neously start up another pump in series, so that continuous processes are not interrupted. Since it is adjustable, false alarms are not a problem, even with wet air.

FILTER/REGULATOR/lllBRICATORS

The Norgrenf’ inline Filter/Regulator/Lubricator (FRL) is designed to enhance pump performance, and reduce maintenance costs. The FRL is used to filter particles and water out of the compressed air coming in to the pump. The FRL is also used to control the air pressure to the pump quickly and easily. Finally the FRL can optimize pump performance in applications where lubrication is recommended. The (FRL) controls the amount of lubricant reaching the pump through the airline, eliminating over lubrication and reducing wear.

A Guide To Material Compatibility

This guide is intended as a general guide for pump material selection. This listing includes the most common liquids used in industrial and processing applications.
The guide data has been compiled from many sources believed to be reliable. No guarantee is implied or expressly stated herein. Because of the extensive scope of this field, the tabulation is not complete nor conclusive. Corrosion rates may vary widely with concentration, temperature, and the presence of abrasives. Impurities or other trace elements common in industrial liquids may inhibit or accelerate the reaction of the material being pumped and the effect on pump materials.
Whereas chemicals or liquids may independently be compatible with a type of pump construction, the combination of several liquids may change the chemical compatibility with a given metal, plastic and elastomer. It is important that this is remembered when selecting acceptable materials of construction for a pump.
It must be emphasized that none of these figures constitute warranty of product performance and are only general guidelines of expected material performance.

WARNING: See caution below regarding metal selection and/or solvent pumping.

RATING KEY: We do not recommend the use of any material of construction with a rating of 'C', 'D', or '-'; we only recommend a material of construction with a rating of 'A or B.
HALOGENATED SOLVENTS WARNING The corrosive action of halogenated solvents which come in contact with aluminum or galvanized wetted parts can, in certain situations, cause an explosion. Solvent manufacturers typically add inhibitors to prevent this corrosive action but there is no guarantee that the inhibitors will work in all circumstances. This is especially true of reclaimed or used solvents in which the inhibitors are degraded. Versa-Matic advises that stainless steel or PVDF pumps be used to pump halogenated solvents.

Consult your material supplier for compatibility with aluminum.
Typical examples of halogenated hydrocarbon solvents (H.H.C.) include, but are not limited to, the following:

Carbon Tetrachloride Methylene Chloride

Chloroform Trichloroethane

Dichlorethylene Trichloroethylene

Methyl Chloride
